Our Commitment
Gleason Marine Inc., doing business as Gleason Sails, is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards.
We believe that all visitors to our website — regardless of ability, assistive technology, or device — should be able to learn about our custom sails, contact Gary Gleason, and request a quote without barriers.
Conformance Status
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, as issued by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). This standard defines how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities.
Our website is designed to be:
- Perceivable: All images include descriptive alt text. Color is never used as the sole means of conveying information. Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of functionality.
- Operable: All interactive elements are accessible via keyboard alone. No content auto-plays or traps keyboard focus. A "Skip to main content" link is the first focusable element on every page.
- Understandable: All form inputs have explicit, visible labels. Error messages are descriptive and associated with the relevant input.
- Robust: We use semantic HTML with appropriate ARIA attributes where needed for compatibility with assistive technologies including screen readers.
Technical Specifications
This website is built to be compatible with the following assistive technologies:
- Screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack)
- Keyboard-only navigation
- Browser zoom up to 400%
- High-contrast and inverted-color display modes
- Reduced-motion user preferences (no animations fire when
prefers-reduced-motion: reduceis set)
The site is built with valid, semantic HTML5, CSS3, and vanilla JavaScript. No plugins or third-party code required for core functionality.
Known Limitations
While we strive for full WCAG 2.2 AA conformance, we acknowledge the following known limitations:
- User-generated content (such as testimonials submitted by customers) may not always meet all accessibility standards. We review and moderate all such content.
- Some older images hosted on our previous website builder platform may lack descriptive alt text. We are working to update these.
- Third-party services (such as Formspree for form submission) are outside our direct control, though we select providers who maintain accessibility commitments.
California Unruh Act & ADA Compliance
California's Unruh Civil Rights Act (Cal. Civ. Code § 51) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) require that websites be accessible to individuals with disabilities. We take these obligations seriously and are committed to maintaining an accessible website.
If you experience a barrier that prevents you from accessing any area of our website, please contact us immediately. We will work with you to provide the information or service through an accessible alternative means.
